Community Relations

The Burlington Police Department seeks to increase cooperation, coordination, and collaboration between the department and other governmental agencies, non-profits, business stakeholders, and civilians in the community. The goal of the outreach program is to effectively improve the quality of life for all members of our population by focusing on the the following:
  • Increasing communication between all sectors of our community, including the Limited English Proficiency (LEP) population, and the police department
  • Enhancing the department's ability to serve our community through partnerships that more effectively and efficiently direct resources to the neighborhood level
Our vision will become a reality when we achieve the following objectives:
  • Identify issues affecting the unique communities within our population. We need to work closely with officers assigned to neighborhoods where LEP and other persons live to identify public safety issues that affect their quality of life
  • Establish and maintain programs to address the needs in the community

Letters to Santa:

We are accepting letters to Santa! Santa has declared the BPD, located at 267 W. Front Street as an officially designated drop-off location for Christmas letters. A magical red mailbox has appeared in the lobby of the Police Department to receive Christmas letters from young people in Burlington. Several of Santa's secret elves have been assigned to hand-deliver the letters to Santa Claus in the North Pole. Letters will be collected from November 26th to December 19th.

"The staff of the Burlington Police Department protect and serve the citizens of Burlington, North Carolina 365 days a year," said Santa Claus. "I know I can trust them to keep my magic mailbox safe and help my elves deliver Christmas letters to my workshop in the North Pole on December 19." The children of Burlington should have their letters to Santa placed in the magic red mailbox by 5:00 pm on December 19th so that we can make sure Santa has ample time to read all of the letters before Christmas Eve. Santa can only reply to his letters if a return address is included with each letter.
